Wanda Thomas

Executive Director

Wanda is a champion for community advancement and enrichment. A native North Carolinian who grew up in Southeast Raleigh, Wanda has always and continues to care deeply for the economic and social ills that plague communities and has witnessed firsthand the disparities in resources that hurt most families in poverty-stricken communities. She is also a true lover of people who wants to see the perfection of their purpose fulfilled. 
Wanda has over 25 years of Non-Profit Administration, Human Resources Management, and community leadership experience. She has worked in various roles in the non-profit sector including Executive Director, Director of Operations, and Director of Development. Exuding a motivating leadership style, Wanda successfully strengthens stakeholder relationships, pursues philanthropic enterprise/endeavors, and implements efficient processes to improve functioning operations. 
Wanda serves as the Executive Director of the Nate McMillan Foundation, which aligns with her desire to respond to the epidemic of fatherless young men. She concentrates her efforts by creating and executing programming, specifically a mentoring program, which addresses this crisis and aims to help and empower these young men. Additionally, Wanda is an exceptional fundraiser that ensures their initiatives are financed and successful. Outside of her broad scope of business, Wanda also uses her passion to act as a catalyst for change by bringing events to the community and facilitating community engagement. She has hosted multiple events where the information positively impacted men, women, boys, and girls. For example, “Total Woman Weekend” brought relevant topics that empowered and inspired women from all walks of life; “Boys II Men” conference, for ages 13-21, equipped young black males with information and empowerment to make good choices and not take chances when it comes to their futures; and numerous scholarship banquets/charity events that raised significant donations to help students in their college endeavors. With the ambition to see communities thrive, Wanda has also served on various boards: Southeast Raleigh Promise, NC Third Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction Academy, and Central Wake High School. 
She is truly a strong leader and a vigorous advocate for the community. In addition, Wanda is the proud mother of two adult children, Jasmyne and Desmonde Jr. (Crystal), and the proud grandmother of Cali. 

Derrick Waters

Board Chair

Derrick boasts a distinguished 30-year career in transportation and logistics, ascending from entry-level to CEO. A passionate advocate for education and staunch opponent of human trafficking, Derrick holds an MBA from Mercer University, a bachelor's in organizational management, and he studied Industrial Engineering.
He dedicated 34 years to UPS, progressing from a part-time role in North Carolina to Vice President of Package Operations, overseeing 24 western states. In August 2021, he joined Coach USA as COO and was promoted to CEO in March 2023.
Derrick is enthusiastic about education and development of the next generation. He has been married to his wife Fredia for 34 years and they have 4 children: Kim, Sharri, Derrick and Erika.

Board Treasurer

Eddie Northen

Eddie Northen serves as the Treasurer for the Nate McMillan Foundation. His work career began at UPS in Raleigh, NC while studying business at N.C. State. Prior to joining UPS, Northen worked at the Raleigh YMCA as a counselor in the boy's programs.
Eddie’s career has included finance roles for UPS, Rollins, Inc., LocatorX and he is currently the CFO at Evolve Vacation Rental. Eddie and family moved 9 times within the U.S. and Hong Kong over his work career. Northen’s final move took him and his family to Atlanta.
Eddie enjoys running, traveling with his wife of 29 years Mayra, and family time. Eddie and Mayra have two adult sons. Nicky is married and works at the Georgia Secretary of State's office and Mitchell is a social media director living in Austin. 
In addition to the Nate McMillan Foundation, Eddie serves on the boards of the Atlanta Area Council of BSA (Scouts), Atlanta Mission (homeless services) and the Atlanta Shakespeare Company. Eddie and Mayra attend North Point Community Church where he serves on the stewardship committee and in the middle school ministry.

Shannon Prevo

Board Secretary

Ms. Shannon Prevo is a native of San Antonio, TX and has lived in the Raleigh area for over 20 years. She holds a B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University and has worked in various capacities in the Telecom, Banking and Pharmaceutical industries and is currently a Senior Technical Writer at Novo Nordisk Pharmaceutical Industries LP Inc. She is a licensed Evangelist in the Church of God in Christ and has been in ministry for over 20 years. 
Passionate about educating others, Shannon willingly shares her knowledge and experience in academia - whether through tutoring, career development, or skillful communication – to inspire and encourage the development of an “I can!” mindset.
A business owner, author, teacher, and facilitator, Ms. Prevo loves engaging, she loves communicating and she lives by the principle of “God First!”

Robyn Wherritt

Board Member

Robyn's professional career began with the Houston Rockets. In 1999, she was hired by the Seattle SuperSonics as the assistant director of public relations. Robyn met Nate McMillan during her tenure with the Sonics.
Robyn and Nate also worked together at the Portland Trail Blazers from 2005-07.
After leaving the NBA, Robyn returned to Seattle where she continued her career in Public Relations.
A gratuate of the University of Kansas, Robyn lives with her family in the greater Seattle area.

Anthony Robinson

Board Member

Anthony has lived in the Raleigh area for nearly 25 years. He obtained his BS degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his Master's degree in Physician Assistant studies from Duke University. He has over 15 years of healthcare experience working in various settings ranging from the Burn Unit at UNC to local community health clinics that service the homeless and uninsured. He is a business owner and is passionate about mentoring young men to be productive and successful contributions to society.  
He is an ordained Elder at the Upper Room Church of God in Christ, where he has faithfully served in various ministry capacities for over 20 years. He has been married 15 years to his wife, Sonia and has three children, Tre, Lana, and Ethan.  

Regina A. Evans

Board Member

Regina holds an MBA in Technology Management and is a global leader and manager of virtual teams, as well as a mentor and coach in the tech industry. She has worked at NetApp, Inc. for over 12 years and has helped drive sales revenue in the millions using effective program management and communication skills. 

She currently works as Sr. Manager in the Shared Product Platform team, as well as serves as an employee volunteer as a campus ambassador for college recruitment, steering team lead for VIBE (Visionaries in Black Excellence), community outreach lead, ambassador for new hires, and mentor. She is a strong advocate for education and financial literacy and uses her expertise to help educate others. 

She has spoken at the undergraduate and graduate level at North Carolina State University, A&T University and UNC-Chapel Hill. She has presented at conferences such as BEYA (Black Engineers of the Year Awards) and WOC (Women of Color). She is passionate about helping people, so she also volunteers to do webinars for Dress for Success, that helps women find their next career opportunity. 

She has received numerous awards such as the Diversity Award from Triangle Business Journal and Women of Color Technologist All-Star Award. She is excited about using her exceptional organizational skills and program management skills to be a productive member of the board. With a shared passion for helping others build strong families, financial literacy and successful careers, she looks forward to working to help this foundation serve our communities with excellence.
